Why was the authors grandmother so;keen on doing the homework? ?

I think the grandmother was keen on doing the homework because she wanted to become independent and didn't want to feel helpless as before. She wanted to become literate as soon as possible another reason could be that she set the saraswati pooja as the deadline which was approaching soon so she was trying to achieve her goal within her self set deadline
