why was the mansion called 'Canterville Chase'?
The house originally belonged to the family of Canterville, before Mr. Otis bought it from Lord Canterville. Moreover, the term "Chase" refers to privately owned hunting grounds. Probably surrounding the house was a semi-forested area used for game shooting.
