why we put distill water in bateries

Distilled water is the purest form of water as it is free from dissolved minerals and the impurities that a normal tap water would inherently have. 

Now, minerals and other impurities dissolved in water are quite harmful to a battery as they stick to the lead plates thereby shortening its life. This is why we use distilled water instead of normal tap water in batteries.
