Why were two national anthems sung at inauguration ? ( Nelson Mandela)

Dear student,

The two national anthems wear sung to represent the two major communities or races ,one National Anthem was for the whites while the other one for the blacks. For the whites it was Nkosi Sikelel- iAfrika and for the blacks it was - Die Stem.
