A hotbed of the Indian Independence movement through the early 20th century, Bengal was partitioned along religious lines. The western part went to India (and was named West Bengal) while the eastern part joined Pakistan as a province called East Bengal (later renamed East Pakistan, giving rise to Bangladesh in 1971). Even today, Bengal is called West Bengal even though it is in the East.

At old times,West Bengal was combined with Bangladesh,and was one.But on the Eastern part of the state(presently Bangladesh)had only Muslim people whereas the Western part(presently West Bengal) had only Hindu people,so the Muslims protested that they wanted a different place to live in,not with the Hindus.So,these West Bengal was separated from East Bengal(Bangladesh) and it got the name so.
I think that this must be the reason.Hope this helps you.

because before independence pakistan , nepal , bhutan, bangladesh were a part of india after the independece the bengal state which was half in india and half in present day bangladesh so the half which was in our india's part was west side of that bengal state so it is called west bengal;

Yes.its quite true that West Bengal is named as WEST because at the time of INDIAN INDEPENDENCE
a situation of Bengal partition arose ,which divided the Bengal of India into West Bengal and East Bengal,which is now known as Bangladesh.
At that time,Bangladesh was also a part of India.As Bangladesh was separated as a part of Pakistan i.e the eastern wing of Pakistan,but ultimately made itself a new country,OUR BENGAL had the name of "West Bengal"

because 100 years ago bangladesh and west bengal where same state known as bengal.
afterwards it was know as two states. east bengal and west bengal.
in year 1972 east bengal has named it bangladesh and have been indipendent.
bengal is not in west but it was the west part of the bengal.

This is because before India-Bangladesh partition, both present Bangladesh and West Bengal were known by the name Bengal. Since West Bengal was towards west when compared with Bangladesh, West Bengal was given this name and Bangladesh was then known as East Bengal. After partition, East Bengal became a country and got the name Bangladesh.
Thank you.............. Hope it helps.............. Thumbs up please.

it is as such because before partition and independence, this state had a neighbour state known as east bengal which was in east direction in respect to west bengal. this state had a majority of muslims so that is why after partittion and independence, it became a part of pakistan and it started to be known as east pakistan but later, after 1971 war, it became a separate country known as bangladesh. but our country's bengal had a majority of hindus because of which it remained with india but its name still remained the same.
hope you learnt something from it.
