why western ghats are considered as one of the bio diversity hot spots?

Biodiversity hotspot is termed to the specific forests consisting of richest diversity of species including most rare and prior to extinct species. Western Ghats are the home for more than 5000 species of plants and animals. Several rare species like lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri Tahr, Malabar giant squirrel, pied hornbill, whistling thrush and many others are present here. for this reason, Western Ghats are considered as biodiversity hotspot.
