Why western ghats have a greater amphibians species diversity than the eastern ghats?
Dear Student,
a. The Western Ghats are continuous ranges with an average height of 900– 1600 metres.
b. This region is characterised by greater diversity in terms of amphibians species.
c. This is primarily because of the climatic conditions, relief feature , precipitation level in that area.
d.The region experiences high rainfall from southwest monsoon and is characterised by tropical and sub tropical forests leading to diverse amphibians species like frogs, toads etc.
e. Also the lower hills in the south have less variable climatic conditions which also impacts the nature of biodiversity.
