Will a spectrum be formed if a ray of monochromatic light falls on a prism?

A spectrum is formed due to the breaking up of light into many other light rays due to variation in wavelength. But a Monochromatic light ray won;t break so there will be no spectrum.The same ray will pass as it is.

no, it will never be formed if monochromatic light falls on a prism. it will not split. the same coloured ray will pass.
