With a neat labelled diagram explain how the image of an extended object source is formed by a plane mirror.

Dear Student,

Consider an extended object AB in front of a plane mirror MM'. a ray of light AC coming from A  incident at point C normally and reflected back. Another ray emerging from point A  incident at point D and gets reflected in the direction DE according to the laws of reflection of light.  Another ray of light BF coming from B strikes the mirror at point F normally and get reflected back. Another ray emerging from point B  incident at point G and gets reflected in the direction GH according to the laws of reflection of light. Rays DE and AC, on producing backwards, meet at point A' behind the mirror and rays GH and BF, on producing backwards, meet at point B' behind the mirror, This results in the formation of A'B' which is the image of the object AB.
Regards
