wooden toy rocket is in the shape of a cone as shown in figure the height of
the conical part is 12 cm. the base of the conical portion has a diameter of 10 cm . If
the conical portion is to be painted red and the base portion green, find the area of the
rocket to be paint. Please no link

Dear Student,

Given : Height of cone=12 cm and diameter of its base=10 cm its conical portion is to be painted red and base green.To Calculate : Area to be paintedSolution : Assuming a cone whose vertex is A and diameter od base circle is B and C.and perpendicular from A on BC meets BC at O.So, AO is the height =12 cm.and Since BC is the diameter So, OB=OC=Radius=BC2=102=5 cmNow, in AOCAs AOC is a Right triangle.So, we can apply pythagorous theorem(AC)2=(AO)2+(OC)2(AC)2=(12)2+(5)2(AC)2=144+25AC=169=13 cmSo,Now, Curved Surface area of Cone =π×r×l=π×5×13 cm2=65π cm2and Base surface area of cone=area of circle on the base=πr2=π(5)2 cm2=25π cm2So, Total Area to be painted=Curved Surface area of Cone+Base surface area of coneTotal Area to be painted=65π cm2+25π cm2=90π cm2=90×227 cm2=282.857 cm2
