Write a brief note on synaptonemal complex and metaphase plate.

Dear student.

When chromosomes lie at centre (equator) with each sister chromatid attached to spindle fibre of their respective poles with the help of kinetochore during metaphase. This alignment of chromosomes is called Metaphase plate.

During meiosis cell division a protein structure is formed in the middle of two homologous chromosomes which help to mediate chromosome pairing, synapsis and crossing over during recombination. This protein structure is known as synaptonemal complex.

Regards.
