The poem begins with the laments of the father about not being able to understand his own child in spite of having lived together since his birth. The father tries to continue the relationship based on what he knew of the son from his youngest years but of course, the son has changed over time. The father wonders whether he has destroyed the seed of his off-spring or sown it where the land belongs to his heir only. They now speak to each other as strangers, and most of the times there is only an awkward silence between them. Though the son has been brought up in the environment and with the values that the father provided, the son is unlike his father in most aspects and has his own thoughts and interests. Now it is the greatest wish of the father that his son returns to the home that he always knew just like ‘The Prodigal’ son. He is unwilling to see the son make his own world and fall into trouble, away from his father. He is ready to forgive his son if he asked for forgiveness and would have him back despite their differences.
  Both father and son all over the world must learn to live on the same globe and on the same land. At this point the son speaks for the first time and he admits that he too feels the sadness of the broken relationship that he shares with his father and yet, there is an anger that arises out of his confused, fraught inner self. Each of them wants to forgive the other but neither is ready to take the first step asking for forgiveness. However, there is hope for the situation to improve as long as they find a way to get closer to each other.
