Velu and Jaya are the two children who were ran away from there houses. They both do the work of rag picking. Both are lill bit literate.

Jaya was a ragpicker she was a brave and sensitive girl she had a good sense of humour she knew that how to deal with difficulties she was kind helpful as in the story helped Velu by giving him some food and a pair of old shoes

Jaya is a sharp and brave child as she supports herself in this loan world . She is of kind and helpful nature as she offered velu for some food without knowing him she has a sense of humour as she calls the dirty tricle of a BUNKINGHUM CANAL and her dirty street as TRIPLICANE . She lived in houses malde made up of rubbish things .. it is a very hard for a child to live in this selfish world without any support but jaya did not give up and managed to earn her livelihood
