Write a summary and critical appreciation of the poem My mother at sixty six.

Dear Student,
My Mother at sixty-six is a poem by Kamala Das that describes the pain of the poet when she discovers that her mother has aged and now looks forlorn and weary.
The poet while driving from her home to Cochin airport notices her mother sitting next to her and looking very old and tired. She compares her mother to that of the fleeting trees on the side of the roads. She exclaims that just like the young trees her mother will also fade away and this brings back her childhood fear of losing her mother. It hurt her to look at the old and lifeless face of her mother. However, she controls her emotions and smiles at her mother wishing her goodbye and wishing to see her again.
