The main factor that led to socialism in Europe was the spread of the industrial revolution and the increase in the number of industrial workers. With industrialisation, more and more people started working in factories. But working conditions in factories were very harsh. Workers had to work long hours in dangerous conditions at very low wages. Workers started forming unions to demand better working conditions and higher wages. Soon, social reformers and some political parties like the British labour party started to support these demands. This led to the spread of socialism in Europe.
