Dear Student, Uses of phosphorus: 1) Phosphorus is a constituent of fertilizers and pesticides. 2) Phosphorus compounds are present in tooth pastes, shampoos etc. 3) Phosphorus is required by our body for the synthesis of energy from the food we eat. 4) Phosphorus helps in the synthesis of bones and teeth. 5) It plays an important role in carbohydrate and fat metabolism. 6) Helps in protein formation. Carbon forms numerous and varied compounds with limitless applications. For example: 1) Diamond is prized as a gemstone and is used for cutting, drilling and as bearings. 2) Graphite is used as a crucible for melting metals, in pencil leads, for rust protection, for lubrication and as a moderator for slowing down the speed of neutrons for atomic fission. 3) Amorphous carbon is used for removing tastes and odours. 4) Coal is used as a fuel. 5) Carbon is also present in sugar. 6) All the biomolecules viz., carbohydrates, fats, proteins, nucleic acids, vitamins are composed of carbon. 7) Carbon is present in all the organic compounds.
