What are the basics of solids states ?

There are basically two types of solids
1) Amorphous solids : There is no regular arrangement of atoms, no definite shape or irregular geometry.
2) Crystalline solids : There is a regular and ordered arrangement of atoms and thus they have definite shape and regular geometry                                Sharp melting point.

Then we should know about the space lattice and unit cell.

Unit cell : Group of 3-D lattice points which repeats over the entire systems and sets the pattern of the resultant crystals.
Space lattice : Space lattice showing the complete structure of the crystal which describe how the molecules atoms or ions are arranged in space.

Unit cell are of four types :  Simple cubic , BCC, FCC , End Centred Unit cell

Then comes the study of type of crystal systems  and bravais lattice :

These are some concepts on which the solid state is based.
