what are the dimensional formula for physical quantities and how do we derive them?

e.g.  physical quantity: length... and its dimensional formula is [M]to d power 0 [L] to the power 1 [T] to d power 0 = [M to the power 0 L to the power 1 T to the power 0]..

Hello,

Dimensional formula is the relation between the fundamental physical quantities- length, mass, time, current, temperature etc. for a given system or observation.

We derive them by raising the power of the fundamental quantity to an appropriate value which satisfies the system considered or the observation taken.

Suppose you want to find the dimensional formula for velocity. We know the unit of velocity is m/s.
Let’s write it this way,
Dimension of Mass is simply [M], for length it is [L], for time it is [T].
So, dimensional formula for velocity is,
[M0][L1][T-1] or [M0L1T-1]

Using this method you can find the dimensional formulae.

Hope this helps,
