Are you strong in Biology but hate Organic Chemistry? Or Physics is what excites but Chemistry and Biology do not. This might be because you are approaching all the 3 subjects in a similar fashion according to your strengths. To know how to ace all the 3 subjects, read on…
Biology

Biology is the science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy. So, proficiency in biology is measured by our ability to understand and remember how different processes take place and interact with each other.

Biology requires us to memorize the processes and additionally practice the whole process with pen and paper to efficiently remember them. Students who are weak in biology typically spend a lot of time in trying to find shortcuts to understand the process but are not making efforts to memorize it.

Physics

Physics is the study of matter and its motion through space and time and all that derives from these, such as energy and force. Proficiency in Physics is measured by our ability to reconstruct or model the physical world through the application of various laws it follows, and predict the outcome of a given situation. Application of formulae to solve problems in Physics requires modeling of the problem into solvable mathematical equations.

Typically, the mathematics involved in solving the problems is very simple, but where most students get stuck is in the modeling of the problem. They are generally not aware of the method of applying the formula to arrive at a mathematical model to solve the equation.
Physics requires reading, thinking, visualizing, integrating and understanding. If one does not understand the problem and application of the formulae in this subject, no amount of practice can help. Just knowing and remembering the concepts as written in the books may not be enough.

Students who are weak in Physics generally do not spend time in reading and understanding the concepts. They may be spending a lot of time in reading, remembering and practicing the problems instead, which is not the right way.

Chemistry

Chemistry is the science concerned with the composition, behaviour, structure and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. It is the study of various atoms, molecules, crystals and other aggregates of matter whether in isolation or combination, which incorporates the concepts of energy and entropy.

Chemistry requires reading, integrating, learning and revising. Students who spend time in reading and learning naturally do well in chemistry. On the other hand, students who are weak in chemistry do not read and remember, and might be spending time in trying to understand the system or practicing the problems instead.

Now, if we break down various sections of this subject and how to deal with them, we see that:
Physical chemistry requires a thorough understanding of concepts to solve problems.
Inorganic chemistry requires knowledge of properties and reactions.
Organic chemistry requires understanding as well as knowledge of the compounds and their reactions. It is in essence, more vast than the other two.

All in all, we find that there is a lot more to learn in chemistry than physics and biology combined.

i can understand the concepts of physics ,but i am getting problem in numericals, sometimes i am weak in modeling or visualise it (numericals) while i know the application of formulas.

I want to do medical . I don’t understand chemistry and physics . Is they both r important for medical then how to understand these two things ie chemistry n physics

thanxx a lot 4 these suggestions.!!!!!!!!
my bio is strong but phy and chem really suck……
ur suggestions will help a lot. 🙂

physics seems boring…!!…can anyone tell how to increase interest in reading n undrstndng physics..??

  • 9. dr.jasleen  |  December 7th, 2012 at 5:28 pm

bio is not about craming the concepts. If somebody teaches it with interest so as to make them accessible for students via their imagination; they can remember the facts of biology..

Just do a lot of practice tests. The scincee portion is hard to study for because you don’t need any scincee knowledge at all, you just need an understanding of how to read graphs and charts. One thing that I was told was to not read the long paragraphs at the beginning of each section of the scincee portion. You know, those paragraphs that seem to preface the experiments. They tell you nothing and waste your time. The only time you need to read on the scincee section is when you are comparing scientist 1 to scientist 2 (or whatever else you may be comparing)Try that little trick and you may be surprised at how much your score increases.

even my problem is the same…..i always score good in bio but i never get marks in chem n phy…..ya even i practice the whch u all have found out……i”ll follow the techniques told by u n try to excell myself.

Good guidance to under stand various techniques involved in studying the subjects Physics, Chemistry and biology. Man times w follow the same method of study for all the subjects which is a wrong approach. Thanks for the guidance.
