2 springs A and B with constants KA and KB (KA is greater than KB) are given. In which of the spring more work is to be done if they are stretched, (a) by same amount (b) by same force.

F=-kxW=F.dx=0x(-kx)dx=12kx2
So, clearly if (a) x is same: W will be more for higher value of K. As KA>KB =>WA>WB.
(b) And if same force is applied, as KA>KB => the displacement 'x' of A will be lesser.
xA<xB.
x2A<<x2B
WA<WB

w=1/2 kx 2

a)

as work done is directly proportional to k so the spring with higher constant ........will do more work

b)

f=-kx

x is inversely proportional to k....................... :)
