An organic compound A (C8H6) on reaction with dil. H2SO4 and HgSO4 followed by isomerisation gives B which can be obtained from benzene on reaction with acid chloride in presence of AlCl3. Identify compounds A and B and write all the reactions.

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

The compound A is phenylacetylene which on reaction with H2SO4 in presence of HgSO4 yields acetophenone. This is a common method for preparing ketones directly form alkynes and enol form is formed first on hydration which isomerises to ketone.
Acetophenone can be easily prepared by the Friedel crafts acylation of benzene. Hence compound B is acetophenone.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about formation of acetophenone from an alkyne and benzene.
