convert ethylmagnesium chloride to propan-1-ol

 

Ethyl magnesium chloride is treated with formaldehyde to produce an adduct which on further hydrolysis yields the Propan-1-ol.

as:

CH₃CH₂-Mg-Cl + HCHO -> {CH₃CH₂-CH₂O-Mg-Cl }-(hydrolysis)->  CH₃CH₂-CH₂OH (Propan-1-ol)
