Elasticity is due to an asymmetric nature of potential energy with seperation between atoms/molecules.Why?

Elastic nature is due to asymmetric nature of the the potential energy curve of atoms as you stress the solid the potential energy will change since we know that it is most stable in the centre so atom should try to come in original place Hence giving elasticity to the the solid.
