Gain of h+ ion is reduction or oxidation
Dear student,
Oxidation and reduction cannot determine with the concept of gain or loss of H+ ion. It can be determined either by gain or loss of electrons or by gain and lose of H or O.
According to definition;
Oxidation - Gain of O or loss of H or loss of e- that increase the oxidation number is called as oxidation.
Reduction – lose of O or gain of H or gain of e- that decrease the oxidation number is called as reduction.
Hence oxidation or reduction cannot determine with the gain or loss of hydroge ion.
