Phenols do not react with one of the following : (a) Alkali metals (b) Sodium hydroxide (c) Potassium hydroxide (d) Sodium bi-carbonate

Dear student,

Phenol is a weak acid and sodium bicarbonate is basic salt, phenol in the presence of sodium bicarbonate does not react with each other. This is because sodium bicarbonate can pull electrons from strong acid but phenol is a weak acid, so it will not able to pull electrons from phenol.

Hence, the correct option is (d).
