Q4. Which of the following is maximum reactive for NBS

         (1) PhCH3

         (2) Ph CH2–CH3

         (3) PhCH2–CH =CH2

         (4) Ph –CH–CH =CH2
                      |
                     CH3

Dear Student,

NBS undergoes allylic bromination. Therefore, (1) and (2) cannot be correct.
Free radical mechanism occurs here, so greater the stability of free radical formed, greater will be the reactivity.
Amongst (3) and (4), (4) will form more stable radical as here the radical is stabilised by +I effect of -CH3 group along with delocalisation on the phenyl group.

Hence, correct answer is (4)
