Two sphere of masses 64 kg and 298 kg was placed at distance 10 cm apart. Find the position of a point on the line joining the centre of two spheres, where the gravitational field is zero.

Hi Ritesh, you have made a wrong posting. Instead 289 kg you have typed 298 kg
Field at a distance x cm from 64 kg = G * 64/(x^2 *10-4)
And field at distance (10 - x) cm from 289 kg = G * 289 / {(10-x)^2 * 10-4}
As field has to be zero then field due to 64 kg = field due to 289 kg
Hence 64 / x^2 = 289 / ( 10 - x)^2
Taking square root we have
8/ x = 17/(10 - x)
Or 80 - 8 x = 17 x
Or 25 x = 80
So x = 3.2 cm
Hence the field will be zero at a point which is 3.2 cm distant from 64 kg
