Inside the fertilised egg or zygote is the instruction for determining the sex of the baby .This instruction is present in the thread like structures ,called chromosomes there are 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nuclei of the cell .Two of them are sex chromosomes named X AND Y .when a sperm containing X chromosomes fertilises the egg,the zygote would hav 2 X chromosomes and would develop into a female child.and if the sperm contributes a Y chromosome to the egg at fertilisation ,the zygote would develop into a male child

All human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nuclei of their cells. Two chromosomes are out of these are the SEX CHROMOSOME, named X  and Y.
When a sperm containing X chromosome fertilises the egg, the zygote would have two X chromosomes and develop into a FEMALE CHILD.If the sperm contributes a Y chromosome to the ovum at fertilisation, the zygote would develop into a MALE CHILD.
