What is enantiomers?

Enantiomers are defined as the stereoisomers of a compound which are related to each other as non-superimposible mirror images. Enantiomers possess identical physical properties - namely melting point, boiling point, solubility, refractive index etc. They differ only with respect to the sign of specific rotation. One of the enantiomers rotates plane of polarisation to the left and is called laevotrorotatory, while the other one rotates the plane of polarisation to the right and is called dextrorotatory. Following are the enantiomers of tartaric acid
