Mr. Gessler was a German shoemaker. He lived in a small by-street in London with his elder brother. He was perfect in the art of shoemaking and believed in quality. He only made what was ordered and what he made never failed to fit. The boots he made also lasted for long. He loved shoemaking and it was as if he lived in a dream of boots. Mr. Gessler was proud of his boots. So, when the author told him one day about the creaking of a certain pair of boots, he was surprised. He told the author that he would take the boots off the author’s bill if he was unable to repair them. According to Mr. Gessler big firms did not have self respect and they get the business by advertisements and not by work. He on the other hand did not believe in advertisements but believed in doing his work perfectly. But when he became old, he started taking a lot of time to complete the orders of the people. Thus, in spite of being a perfect shoemaker, he lost business and became a failure.
