Why can carbon reduce copper oxide to copper but not calcium oxide to calcium?
Dear Student,
Answer: Carbon is more reactive element than copper so it can readily displace copper from copper oxide (CuO) but calcium is more reactive as compared to carbon so carbon cannot displace Calcium from Calcium Oxide. Hence, carbon can reduce Copper Oxide to Copper but not Calcium Oxide to Calcium.
