Why cycloalkane having less carbon atom are more reactive or have more angular strain as compared to to those having large carbon atom .

Dear Student, Cycloalkanes have sp3 hybridized carbons. The angle for sp3 hybridization is 109°28'. With rings of 3, 4, 5 and 6 carbons, the angle is 60°, 90°, 108° and 120° respectively which less that tetrahedral angle. This deviation from tetrahedral angle decreases with increase in ring size. Hence, the angle strain decreases with increase in ring size. Regards.
