Hello students,
The time has come for your preparation to get the final coat of polish for the upcoming examination.
Scoring good marks in English needs systematic preparation, conceptual clarity in grammar and revision before the exams. Given the time constraint and the vastness of your syllabus, you have only a handful of days left to give a quick glance to it before you enter that examination hall.
Therefore you need to review all the topics you have been learning till date in the subject.

Meritnation endeavours to aid you in this process and hopes that it can help you add sparkle to your writing and your marks in the English board exam. First things first, The pattern of the question paper is as under:

Question Paper (English – Communicative)

Section A: Reading – 15 marks
Section B: Writing – 20 marks
Section C: Grammar – 15 marks
Section D: Literature – 20 marks
Novels – 10 marks

Question Paper (English – Language and Literature)

Section A: Reading – 15 marks
Section B: Writing – 15 marks
Section C: Grammar – 15 marks
Section D: Textbooks – 25 marks

  • To tackle questions in the English grammar section, you need to go through all the solved exercises that you have done throughout this second term
  • Revise the rules of important topics such as articles, reported speech, active and passive voice, transitive and intransitive verbs, modals, etc.
  • Memorise the formats of formal and informal letters, e-mails, notice writing, biosketch, debate, speech, etc.
  • Go through the summaries thoroughly to get a good grip on all the lessons of the textbooks.
  • Jot down the most important poetic devices and figures of speech used in various texts of your syllabus. You can then use them in the critical analysis of the poem and impress the examiner.
  • You are advised to take a mock test on your own by randomly selecting a sample test paper.
  • During the test, adhere to the rules followed in the examination hall.
  • You can also attempt questions asked in the previous years to get a better handle of the trends.
  • Manage your time well. Always answer to the point and according to the marks assigned to each question. You might lose out on long answer questions while going into details in the short answer type questions.
  • If you would like to discuss the questions and want to evaluate your answers, you can always come to our Ask and Answer forum and ask our experts.

More tips on specific topics are in the pipeline so keep watching this space regularly!

Good Luck !
