The two most prominent questions bewildering parents & engineering aspirant students these days are:

1. Which college?

2. Which branch?

If you are reading this post then we expect you as a student who wants to do engineering but confused about which branch to aspire for. With growing competition it is good to aspire for career that have good future prospects, but it is also advisable to be aware of kind of course structure one would come across.

Some students aspire to become an engineer but once they crack the competition, they don’t know which field or which branch to opt for. There is a popular saying that when it comes to careers , always begin with the end in mind.

But the good news is ..it’s not so tough, you just need to know following things like placement, future of field & the comforts it bring along with it.

Find in what you are interested:

There are two type of students who want to do engineering, first is one who is really interested in engineering, who always dreams about becoming an engineer since he was a child. For these students we recommend to follow their dreams and choose a branch in which you are really interested. A universal fact is that if you are really good in something, then nobody can stop you from becoming successful.

In the second category there are students who wants to become an engineering but haven’t discovered their interest yet. They just wanna know which branch is best in terms of Placement, future, job security, job comfort, etc. If you fall in this category then rest of the section is for you.

Which is the best branch in engineering?

All students want to know which college is the best? but it is not the college but a students abilities too, which would help him/her achieve greater successes in their lives ahead. The best question to ask yourself is “Which is the best college/branch for me?”.

For an example, students don’t prefer the branches like agriculture engineering or chemical or bio chemical engineering. But prospects of these branches are in great position in great demand too and many bio-chemical engineering professionals are also well known internationally for the contribution in their field.
“The main issue is not what you choose, but it is how you plan.”

Brief reviews about various branches:

1. Mechanical engineering:

A mechanical engineer needs to design, manufacture and test various equipments used in industrial production such as generators, engines, turbines etc. It is a well-known engineering branch. It is an evergreen branch with great scope and you will also have to do some field work.

Present & Future:

Mechanical engineering is an evergreen branch of engineering. Both present and future would be the same.

2. Civil Engineering:

A civil engineer’s job is not new. It is perhaps the oldest branch of engineering. Civil engineers have a great responsibility of creating cities which are modern and well planned.

Present & Future:

Present of a civil engineer is good. Few years back the demand for civil engineers was quite less but in future because of urbanization of the country more and more civil engineers would required.

3. Electronic and communication Engineering:

It is the most versatile branch among all. The branch itself is sub-divided into different parts. Electronics is the most versatile branch, so you can easily get placed in CS and IT companies. .South India has good prospects for this branch , if a student wants to pursue core subjects as career. It is a safer branch for the future point of view

Present & Future:

Present as well as future of an electronic & communication engineer is very bright. It is always an evergreen branch. So an electronic engineer has not to bother about its future.

4. Software Engineer

A software engineer is expected to write programs for various applications. It could be for system as well as application programs. You need to have bachelor’s degree in computer science or MCA. Moreover, you need to have knowledge of different computer language.

For a fresher, you must be good at programming.

Present & Future:

Present of a software engineer is good but future is even more exciting. As you see, IT industry is growing more and more software engineers would be needed in future.

5. Agricultural Engineer

Agricultural engineering is actually not very much popular among students but it can be evergreen career opportunity in future. Here engineer has to ensure that how agriculture yield or output could be increased with less expenditure. You must have a degree in biotechnology with passion to innovate.

Present & Future:

Future of agricultural engineering is great because for food security globally, and innovate on various soil development , agricultural machinery technologies . Organizations like John Deere – U.S, Bobcat(A subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand) are some of the big names in best agricultural equipment manufacturing , who need talented agricultural engineers.

6. Automobile Engineer

Automobile engineering is also a great profession. Younger generation is fascinated by automobile engineering. It is a new branch compared to electronics or electrical. Apart from bachelor’s degree in automobile engineering you need to have strong designing and implementation skills.

Present & Future:

Future of auto engineering is promising. Due to global warming there is a demand of more fuel efficient cars. So automobile engineers are required in great number.

Final words:

All branches of engineering have the potential to deliver a great future to the student. More than selection of the institute it is the selection of the right branch which is critical. Before finalizing on any institute a student should necessarily be satisfied with the institution’s accreditation status. Understand & analyse your aptitude, interest & skills and apply these details to select the right branch of engineering. Where ever required, do not hesitate to take professional help to select the right branch and the right institute.
