a ball is given a velocity 2m/s and is subjected to acceleration 4m/sperpendicular to the initial motion. What is its displacement after 2 seconds?

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

Let the particle is having velocity in x - direction and acceleration is in y - direction. Then the object will move with uniform velocity in x - direction and with uniform acceleration in y - direction. Therefore,

Displacement along  x - direction is,

x=ut=2×2=4 m

Displacement along  y - direction is,

y=12at2=12×4×22=8 m
Therefore, the total displacement is,

S=x2+y2=42+82 =16+64=809 m

As per ur question u=2m/s
                              a=4m/s2
                              t=2s
so s=ut+1/2at2
thus s= 8 metres
