8 Tips On Preparing for IIT JEE Mains

Meritnation|Mar 24th, 2014 01:27pm

The pressure of excelling in your Class 12 exams drains out all your energy, no matter what stream you are studying in. But if you are a Science stream student and also aspire to appear for the IIT JEE Main exam right after your boards, the pressure is bound to give you sleepless nights. But all the anxiety is not going to help you clear the entrances, a good study pattern and smart studying will.

Under the strain of a huge syllabus and very less time for preparation, it is very possible that you mess up your entire schedule without any positive results whatsoever. In order to avoid this, devise a plan or strategy that will help you remain in sync with your schedule and guide you towards studying effectively. Go through the list below to get help with your studies.

1. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses.

While preparing for any kind of exam, and especially IIT entrances, it is important for you to know what subjects or topics you are good at and which ones you are not. Once you know these, preparation will become slightly easier as you can concentrate better on your weaknesses.

2. Be confident.

Before you give yourself to your IIT preparation, make yourself believe that you can do it. If you do not feel so, you will not be able to give your all in the preparation. Do not underestimate yourself, i.e., do not form a notion that you are not good enough. Also, make sure you do not do the opposite, or else you get over-confident and not prepare enough.

3. Lay stress on Time Management.

During the preparation period, many of you will wish there were more than 24 hours in a day! Well, since that is not possible, you can choose the next best option, which is to manage your time in such a way that you get enough time for your study schedule and enough for rest as well. Proper stress on all three required subjects is necessary. Also, revision and practice should be included in your timetable so that you don’t forget what you studied.

4. Make your Fundamentals and Concepts strong.

Without making your base solid, you cannot expect to reach the higher levels. So make sure your preparation base is not shaky. Learn and understand all the concepts and practice questions based on them.

5. Don’t give up on your attempts.

When solving questions, do not take the easy way out if you can’t find the solutions. Make sure you have tried enough number of times before looking at the answers.

6. Make use of Model Papers and Previous years Question Papers.

As an added preparation method, take time-bound tests based on model question papers and question papers from previous years’ entrances. These will help you judge the amount of time taken by you and the areas where need to improve.

7. Take out enough time to rest.

Resting in between IIT entrance preparations may sound very useless, but is, in fact, very important. If you put too much stress on your mind and do not get enough time for rest, you get so exhausted that you cannot concentrate further. Keep up the interest in the subjects so that you enjoy what you are preparing. You will need at least 6-7 hours of sleep in order to relax your brain well enough. In case you feel sleepier than necessary, go out for a short walk, listen to light music in order to set your concentration in one place.

8. Be regular with your schedule.

There is no point abandoning your schedule right after you have a good hold on it. Be consistent with your schedule and follow it throughout. Of course, you may alter it according to your requirements. If you feel you can study a subject better at another time of the day, replace it effectively.
