Union human resource development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on 3rd June 2020 released an alternative academic calendar for classes 11 and 12, developed by NCERT to engage students meaningfully amind the COVID-19 lockdown through educational activities with the help of their parents and teachers.

The alternative calendar provides guidelines for teachers on how to use various technological and social media tools to educate students in creative, interesting, and fun ways while they are at home.

This calendar is made considering the students who do not have internet facility or may not be able to use different social media tools- such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.. It guides teachers to further guide parents and students through SMS on mobile phones or through voice call.

Mr. Pokhriyal added that this calendar will cater to the need of all children including Divyang children (Children with Special Needs). It will include links for Audiobooks, Radio programs, Video programs.

The academic calendar, initially, has been prepared for four weeks, after which it may be extended further. The calendar also covers experiential learning activities such as Arts Education, Physical Exercises, yoga, etc.. Mr. Pokhriyal informed that the calendar contains a week-wise plan consisting of interesting and challenging activities, with reference to theme or chapter taken from the syllabus or textbook.

Alternative Academic Calendar for the Primary classes – Classes I to V, upper primary stage Classes VI to VIII, and higher secondary stage Classes IX and X have already been released by Union Minister of Human Resource Development in April.
