A lot of students and their parents wonder which are the best books for IIT JEE preparation. There is no such thing as the one book that can help you pass your exam. Here are some tips to help you choose a book:

1. NCERT Physics for Class XI and XII – Physics NCERT textbook have been written marvelously well for Physics. The technical language is the first barrier you will face with these books, but it will only prepare you well for JEE. In JEE the first barrier is the language barrier, i.e you need to first comprehend what the problem states.

2. HC Verma – Concepts of Physics – It’s the only book till now which has explained all the concepts precisely with a very exhaustive set of problems. The problems of this book provokes analytical reasoning and helps develop strategy to apply concepts in every possible way.

3. Problems in Physics by IE Irodov – IE Irodov Physics is a good book for solving Physics numericals . It includes good conceptual questions with a variety covering every topic. The best covered topics in IE Irodov Physics book are Basis of Vector, Trigonometry and Calculus.It mostly tests the fundamentals of your knowledge in basic Physics.

4. Resnick, Halliday & Walker (Optional): This book is referred as additional reading material to further understand the theory of each chapter. Each and every concept is explained to the finest detail with multiple examples for each concept.

         Chemistry

1. NCERT Chemistry text books of class XI and class XII (usually sufficient)– NCERT books are written and organized in the way that it touches all the concepts. NCERT books forms the base of the subject for further explanation. If your foundation is strong you can build many dream houses on that. The students who opt to crack IAS, IPS exams also prefer to choose NCERT books for their preparations.

2. Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd- Organic Chemistry by Morrison & Boyd is a classic in its field at UG level. Its detailed explanations and ability to make students think make organic chemistry a lot more enjoyable. It is a bit funny at times, like in stereo chemistry, the authors write, “Remember everything has a mirror image, except a vampire, of course!”. What is truly likable is that the authors try to reason out almost everything, and that’s what aids understanding.

3. Physical Chemistry -P Bahadur – It’s one of the most highly recommended books for physical chemistry and for numerical problems for any engineering entrance exam. The set of problems in the book are very exhaustive. The problems available are from state level engineering entrance exams to JEE for each chapter in the book.

4. Arihant Organic Chemistry Objective (Optional)– NCERT theory is sufficient for organic and Inorganic but to undergo extra practice, students can refer to Arihant publication books which are re-published each year based on the current pattern of JEE.

      Mathematics

1. NCERT class XI and class XII books – The NCERT Mathematics books are quite exhaustive in the content aspect. The intext and exercise problems are on a very basic level and cover each and every part of the chapter. Use these books to develop sound fundamentals first, and then move on to more advanced level problems from other books and material.

2. Books by SL Loney (Good for coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry)- The author has written the book in a very exhaustive manner, in-fact even PhD students use these books. For ideal preparation it’s always preferred to have a mentor to guide the student on which part of the book is solved and which part can be left out.

4. Tata McGraw Hill (TMH) – Mathematics Books – These are widely read reference resource for aspirants of IIT and other Engineering Entrance Examination. Divided into 26 chapters that covers the entire gamut of the subject, each chapter begins with important list of definitions, formulas, theorems, tips and problem solving strategies followed by solved examples. That helps to develop clarity in concepts and teachers way to approach a question.

3. GN Bernnam – Only use it for calculus as other sections are too advanced for JEE- This book is specifically used for Calculus, and on every concept in every chapter a number of different problems are available. Don’t use this book beyond Calculus as it contains higher level mathematics, which is not at all needed for JEE.
