All you people out there who have been book lovers for as long as they can remember, aren’t summer vacations the best time to catch up on your reading?! Piles of books stashed on your nightstand or your bookshelf, waiting to change your life in their unique way, one at time. And you have all the time to read your favourite authors of all time. No school and no homework can interrupt you for these few days and you can read practically whenever you want!
If the above mentioned situation is true for you, or maybe if you want to start reading as a hobby this summer, here are a list of books and authors we recommend you check out!
Ruskin Bond
Known to be one of the finest children’s authors, Ruskin Bond has written several short stories and novels for children and young adults. Most of his stories are based around characters that are teenage boys and girls, whose lives are full of adventure. His stories are autobiographical and semi-autobiographical, and the characters are portrayed as frank, open-minded and emotional together. Reading about adventures in the hills and smalls towns in India is a pleasure!
Roald Dahl
People who have read Roald Dahl associate a lot of nostalgia to the books. An excellent spinner of tales, Roald Dahl’s books incorporate fantasy, thrill, wonderment and adventure with a lot of efficacy. A lot of his books have been adapted as movies, like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and more recently, The BFG.
Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll is prominently known for the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, both are part of a successful film franchise now. Using elements of time, magic, fantasy, mythical creatures, etc., Carroll creates an alternate universe altogether for readers to get lost in! His books can be enjoyed as much by adults as well.
Anita Desai
Anita Desai’s A Village by the Sea is a novel for children and young adults and deals with topics like poverty and other hardships faced by a small community in India. Desai draws from her own experiences as a child to weave a tale that grabs your attention and holds it for the entire length of the book.
Salman Rushdie
Another celebrated children’s author, Salman Rushdie has authored several novels for children and young adults. His books like Haroun and the Sea of Stories and Luka and the Fire of Life have gained immense popularity among critics, and are even prescribed to students as additional reading in schools, since these books also hold an imagery of the problems faced in the society.
