yoga_studentsThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has advised its schools to include Yoga under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for assessment from this academic year. The instruction has come as a part of a circular asking all affiliated schools to mark June 21 as International Day of Yoga.

The circular issued on the official website says that “keeping in mind its significance for the masses, this year too, the 2nd International Day of Yoga is being celebrated on 21 June, 2016. Schools may organize mass yoga demonstration from 7-8 am on International Day of Yoga in their premises on voluntary basis.” The circular also mentions Yoga as an activity for assessment where such grades will depicted in the students’ report card.

The schools may organize musical Yoga events, fests, debate, essay, quiz & drawing competitions based on “Yoga”. Schools are also informed to involve the entire school population to participate in mass Yoga demonstrations at least once a week early in the morning during assembly hours. A similar circular was issued on April 19 to schools affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).

All CBSE affiliated schools have been asked to send at least one Yoga/Physical Education teacher for a Certificate Course being organised by the Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with the Quality Council of India. Schools must also upload the Yoga activities undertaken by them on its website and forward a report to the Board.
