Get Your Dream Career in India!

India has always been a center of learning from time immemorial, starting with the Nalanda University which was the oldest university system in the world. Today education in India is provided by excellent universities, both in the public and private sector. India is a popular destination for higher education amongst international students due to quality education that is also highly affordable. English being the common language of communication, it is also hugely popular with large multinational companies, who regularly recruit from Indian campuses. With over 350 universities and 20000 colleges, India offers a wide spectrum of courses that are recognised globally.

INDIA FOR ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY >>

India has always been known for its engineers all over the world who have made the country proud through their wonderful achievements in all fields. About 30% of scientists in NASA are Indians. Even in sectors like education, Deans of top universities like the Harvard Business School and Carnegie Mellon University have been engineers from India! The country has excellent engineering colleges imparting specialized courses in engineering, technology and applied sciences. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are the leading institutes in the country.

Indian Institute of Technology (IITs)

The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) is a group of engineering colleges established by the government of India in 1950. They are considered the most prestigious engineering institutes in the country, and are a well recognized brand globally. IIT-ians have created a mark for themselves internationally through their great contributions in all fields of engineering & science. The IITs provide courses for B.Tech (4 years), M.Tech (2 years), Dual degree for B.Tech+M.Tech (5 years) and Doctoral degrees.

There are 18 IITs in India. The top ranking ones are Kharagpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur, Chennai, Roorkee and Hyderabad. The other IITs are in the cities of Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna, Ropar, Goa and Varanasi.

The IITs have over 8800 seats. Below is the break up for the no. of seats in each of the IITs:

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs), earlier known as Regional Engineering Colleges, are a group of 30 engineering colleges in India, located in each major state. In 2007, the Indian government declared these schools as Institute of National Importance. NITs offer degree courses at bachelors, masters, and doctorate levels in various branches of engineering and technology.

There are over 15400 seats in the 30 NITs in India, out of which about 7800 come under the All India Quota while the remaining are for Home State Quota.

The top ranking NITs are NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Warangal and NIT Surathkal.

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are a group of engineering colleges in India focused on information technology. They are established, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Indian Government. Currently there are 11 colleges, and the 9 below offer undergraduate degrees:

The Challenge

Tough Entrance Exams

Students wishing to get admission in IITs or NITs will have to clear JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Because clearing JEE Main exam means that one is in the list of top 150,000 students & after that they appear in the JEE advanced exam. For IIITs students need to go through the JEE Main exam only.

About JEE

JEE MAIN JEE ADVANCED

Additional Route for Admission to NITs & IIITs – DASA Scheme

As the above listed exams are tough and competition is fierce, in case a candidate is not able to get admission through the JEE, there is an additional option under a special scheme of Ministry of Human Resource of India called Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA).

DASA is designed for Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin / Non‐Resident Indians. India has always been a center of learning, and the Government established this scheme to provide affordable higher education to its students and scholars from countries all over the world. The institutions covered under this scheme are known for providing quality education in Engineering and technology. All these institutions have reasonably good facilities for accommodation, sports and extracurricular activities.

Some of the NITs and IIITs participate under DASA. Here the applicants do not need to go through the JEE route. They can apply by taking the SAT subject tests administered by “College Entrance Examination Board” USA on behalf of ETS (Educational Testing Service). The preparation for JEE comes in handy here as it also helps the candidates prepare for the SAT tests in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Level II.

Registration Fee and First Semester Tuition Fee: A total amount of US$ 3750 [US Dollars three thousand seven hundred fifty] is required to be paid along with the application form. This is towards non-refundable registration fee of US$ 250 [US Dollars Two hundred fifty only] and first semester Tuition Fee of US$ 3500 [US Dollars three thousand five hundred only]

Tuition Fee for subsequent semesters of study: The tuition fee of US$ 3,500/ US$ 1,750 (as applicable) for the subsequent semesters of study is to be paid by the admitted applicants, directly to the concerned Institution, as per rules of the admitting Institution.

For DASA admissions, a candidate should have taken Mathematics level II, Physics and Chemistry in SAT subject tests. A minimum of 1440 SAT Score (Physics+Chemistry+MathsII) is required.
