Expert Faculty Shares Important Tips for AIPMT Retest Preparation

expert tips for aipmt retest july 2015The news of the AIPMT retest created a state of uncertainty for all the AIPMT 2015 aspirants. Students who had already taken the exam on 3rd May were left with less than a month to prepare again for the retest on July 25. The dilemma faced by students is very justified given that till a couple of weeks back no one was even sure that there would be a retest. Moreover many students feel that one month is not sufficient for their AIPMT preparation. There are a lot of questions that students are left with like:

How different will the AIPMT re-test paper be from that of May 3?
Will the exam pattern and topics be the same?
What all to cover and revise in such a short span of time?

Our expert faculty at MeritNation had a discussion on what students should do and focus on in these last 2 weeks before the retest, and here are valuable inputs from them.

We urge all students to go through these tips for all the 3 subjects as these are very very important. They will help you strategize better for the upcoming exam. Also share with your friends or near and dear ones who are appearing for the AIPMT retest 2015 to help them at this critical stage.

Biology

Expert tips on important topics and What to focus on

1) For the 5 Kingdoms, it is VERY essential to read through ONLY NCERT word by word. Nothing comes from outside NCERT in the AIPMT exams for kingdoms. Pay special attention to general features of Chordata and all classes like Reptilia/ Amphibia/ Aves/ Mammalia etc
.
2) Cell division ( Mitosis/ Meiosis)

3) Biomolecules diagramatic representation given in NCERT. (Page number 145, XI)

4) Enzyme: Inhibition and effects on Km value and Vmax

6) Z scheme (Photosynthesis) and briefs of C3/C4/Cam pathway (only basic differences)

7) Number of ATP synthesized in Aerobic/ Anaerobic respiration. Outlines of Glycolysis and krebs cycle and OXPHOS

8) Muscle contraction and types of muscles (very very important)

9) Cardiac cycle/ ECG (leads/graphs)

10) Osmolarity change during urine formation in various Nephron parts (page 296 fig 19.6 NCERT)

11) Sodium potassium pump and depolarisation/repolarisation. Nerve impulse conduction

12) Diagram of Inner ear

13) Gametogenesis: Very Important Topic

14) Menstrual cycle graph: Extremely important

15) Contaceptive: Another very important topic

16) Pedigree analysis

17) Human disorders

18) DNA replication, transcription and translation: Do read through them as at least 5 questions are expected from these topics.

19) Drugs (opiate and cannaboid drugs, coccaine, smack etc): 2-3 questions are expected from these topics.

20) Application of Biotechnology is an important topic.

21) Ecology: About 8-10 questions are expected, so read NCERT Solutions word by word for these.

Chemistry

Expert tips on important topics and what to focus on

1) Revise through the NCERT ONLY for Inorganic and Organic Chemistry

2) Pay more attention to “Mole Concept”. It is the expected to be the most important topic in the retest.

3) Go through Bohr’s Model, Quantum numbers and Concept of nodes in atomic structure

4) Focus on trends in physical and chemical properties that will help in covering S,P,D and F block also.

5) In Chemical Bonding, focus more on “Hybridization, VSEPR, MOT, Resonance and VBT (Most important)

6) Thermodynamics (1st and 2nd law) and Thermochemistry

7) Equilibrium full chapter

8) Redox reactions (balancing)

9) General Organic Chemistry: Isomerism, Nomenclature, Electronic effects, Reaction mechanism

10) Reactions of Benzene

11) NCERT for Solid State

12) Solutions: Roult’s law and Colligative properties

13) Electrochemistry complete chapter

14) Chemical Kinetics: 1st order reactions, Arrhenius equation, Predicting progress of a reaction

15) Metallurgy: NCERT is sufficent

16) Co-ordination Chemistry: Nomenclature, Isomerism, Vant Hoff’s factor, CFT, Synergic bond

Physics

Expert tips on how to strategize in the last 2 weeks

1) Balance your time between revision of all important chapters & topics and solving as many as mock tests as you can.

2) As per analysis, the maximum weightage expected is nearly 20% Modern Physics, 24% Mechanics and Electrodynamics.

3) Theoretical Questions related to Modern Physics are too easy and involve very little calculations therefore students of biology must emphasize on that.

4) In case of question involving lengthy calculations, first try to solve them through approximation or as per options. If that does not help, only then go on to go through with the complete calculation.

5) In Heat and thermodynamics, majority of questions are of P-V graph or principles of thermodynamics which are easy to solve.

6) Do not divulge into new topics at this points of time. Stick to the topics you have already covered and try not learn new things at this point of time.

7) When revising Physics, give an extra minute to let the formulas register as these are very important and revising the formulas will definitely prove beneficial.

8) Do not waste your time by solving the same type if questions. Go for variety of questions, and not the number of questions.

9) Revise the entire syllabus with a vision. Don’t read all the theory again and again.

In addition to the above, here are some general pointers students are advised to follow:

General Tips:

1. Try and limit yourself to NCERT ONLY for revisions.

2. Solve AIPMT Mock test papers atleast once in every three days.

3. Stick to the topics you have already covered, focus on them and make them stronger. Do not try to learn new things at this point of time.
