JEE 2015 Alert: Joint Counselling for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTI. Dates Changed by JoSAA

Joint Admission Board (JAB) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2015 have announced a joint counselling schedule for both JEE Main 2015 and JEE Advanced 2015 which will apply for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTI for the academic year 2015-16.

As per an official notification on the IIT Bombay website: “Seat allocation for academic programs offered by 88 Institutes will be done jointly through this Authority for the academic year 2015-16”.

Institutes Participating in Joint Counselling:

> 20 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)

> ISM Dhanbad

> 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs),

> 16 IIITs

> 18 other Government Funded Institutions

IMPORTANT: Change in Counselling Dates

> The counselling schedules announced earlier by JAB and CSAB now stand cancelled and new dates have been announced now for joint counselling. (*Detailed dates schedule below)

> The process of joint seat allocation will be through a common web portal and will commence from 25 June, 2015.

> The first round of joint seat allocation will begin from July 1, 2015, the second round from July 7, 2015 and the third round from July 12, 2015.

Why Joint Counselling

> This will provide a common online platform for applying to various engineering colleges across the nation.

> This will also eradicate the issue of reserving multiple seats. Candidates can now apply for multiple options but cannot reserve more than one seat. Earlier, when institutes had a separate counseling process, candidates could block seats in more than one institute. They would then choose one and dump the rest at the last moment, due to which seats were left vacant in colleges like NITs and CFTIs.
